It may seem daunting at first, but with a little planning and a “can do” attitude, you can make it happen.

Good Jobs for High School Students
If you are in your last year of high school and you plan to attend college, then you may want to start saving money by getting a part-time job. Sometimes, you can make money by working within your own neighborhood by cutting grass, painting houses, or raking leaves on the weekends.
Those who want to get out and about may want to start looking at customer service positions at retail companies where you can work as a cashier, salesperson, or be an associate who can take on any number of tasks. If you know what degree program you hope to major in, then you could find a job that gives you some experience.
So, if you plan to go to culinary school, then you could get a part-time job as a prep cook. Or, if you want to major in something like early childhood education, then you could get a babysitting job so you can get used to kids.
Wherever you choose to go, make sure that you get approval from your parents and talk to your job about the fact that you still go to school.
Most places will be happy to offer a flexible schedule. If you find yourself getting burned out and your grades start to suffer, then you may want to adjust again.
Working While Attending College
Once you get to college, you may want to continue to work so you can pay for the costs of tuition and room and board.
If you can, consider getting a job that is on the campus itself, like working at the library, finding a job as a teacher’s assistant, or working at the rec hall. A job like this will allow you to make some extra money and give you an easy commute so you don’t have to spend a lot of time traveling to your job.
You could also find employment at a job that will allow you to stay in your dorm room. Something like working as a freelance writer or becoming a tutor for the other students will allow you to make some cash. Since you can work when you want, the job won’t cut into your homework time.
What If Making Money Is the Priority?
Some students may face the issue of not having enough money to afford college, so they have to work longer hours or even a full-time job to make enough for tuition. If this is the case, then consider telling your job that you are also going to school and they may give you a more flexible schedule. In the case of certain career choices, the business might even offer a form of tuition reimbursement.
If you work full time then another option is to attend an online university. Classes at these universities are very flexible and you can often take classes at night and have a lighter class load if necessary. Online courses are also much more affordable than their in-person counterparts.
There are many great bachelors programs available online, from those in computer science to health and nursing. Your degree here might take a bit longer but it is just as good as those at the brick and mortar institutions.

Those still in high school won’t have a comprehensive resume, but don’t let that stop you. Everyone needs to start somewhere, and if this is your first job, be honest with the employer but assure them that you are a hard worker. You could also obtain letters of recommendations from parents and teachers.
In college, you can do the same. Let the employer know that you are a student and that you will need a flexible schedule.
Before your interview, research commonly asked questions so you can be prepared with the best answers. If you have a big week of tests ahead, don’t be afraid to ask for time off.
