  • Many people have no idea what they want to do after they graduate from college.

There are so many opportunities — from finding a career quickly to taking a year off to travel — that you could be forgiven for not really knowing what you want to do.

There are plenty of things you can decide to do after college. Some of them can help you prepare for your field in your field of study and others can make your life experiences richer. Whatever you choose to do after college, you should know that there are options out there for you.

Here are a few of the things you do after you earn your degree and are no longer in school.

    Take a Gap Year

Maybe you want to continue to pursue higher education with an advanced degree, but just aren’t quite sure. You could take a “gap year,” where you dip your toes into your chosen field as an intern or other entry-level position to gain experience and see if you another degree will help you.

Taking a year off from school not only helps you better understand your career possibilities, it also gives you a chance to reflect and take note of your life to see if you’ve made the right decisions. If you feel that you want to do something else entirely, then the year off can help you make that decision so when you go back to school, you’ll know exactly what you want to do.

You can take the year off to focus on what makes you happy and figure things out without spending time and money on a degree you may not need or want.

    Travel

A lot of graduates like to travel to cities and countries that they’ve never been to before to gain a little world experience. If you are not in a hurry to find a job and can manage it without putting yourself in too much debt, traveling can be a life-changing opportunity.

If you want to travel but can’t find the money, you can also figure out how to volunteer abroad, so that you get to travel and earn a living at the same time. You can work for may global charities or you could teach schoolchildren who speak your language.

    Freelance

Freelancing has become a popular way to find work while not committing to one particularly company. Whatever your degree is in, there’s a good chance that you could freelance for a while to earn a living.

Freelancing lets you work your own schedule and with a variety of different clients. You can usually do much of your freelancing without even leaving your house if you have an internet connection and a computer. Here’s a list of all of the different freelancing opportunities out there that may be right for you.

If you’re not sure what you want to do after college, consider one of these options.
