Ideally, it’s something that you enjoy doing, like a hobby you’re already interested in.
You should never feel like you need to turn your hobby into a job, everyone needs something they just enjoy doing for its own sake. However, here are a few common hobbies that can translate into a career if you think they would be a good fit for you.
Fitness and Sports
In general, fitness is a huge industry, and there are plenty of jobs that you can use your passion for sports or fitness in. Consider becoming a personal trainer if you like working with people one-on-one.
Physical therapy is one way to turn your interest toward the medical industry. You could even become a coach or teacher if you enjoy working with children.
Video Games
There are a ton of great reasons to want a career in video games, especially for the serious enthusiast. The great thing about the video game industry is that you can break into it in so many different ways.
If computers are your thing, you can become a programmer or 3D modeler. If you’re more artistic, video games always need artists to design the way they look. Even something voice acting for video games is another great avenue to take if you want to be in that world.
Writing
Writing is a very common hobby that you can translate into a career. Businesses in a wide variety of industries need great writers to get their ideas across.
Many writers work as freelancers for anyone who may need to write something but can’t do it themselves. You could also work for an advertising agency or become a copywriter if you enjoy the marketing side of it.
If you can get ideas across efficiently and succinctly, your writing could become a very lucrative career.
Arts and Crafts
It may seem strange to turn something like arts and crafts into a full career, but when you think about the skills involved, it’s not such a crazy idea at all. Most arts and crafts require you to be able to work with your hands well, which can translate to all sorts of trade skills such as woodworking or smithing.
If you want to work on your own, consider starting your own business selling your crafts on independent marketplaces.
