  • Every year, more students head off for college to begin a new chapter in their lives and learn something new.

Of course, there are many myths that are associated with going to college that often put people off going or make them nervous about starting their freshman year.

The good news is that a lot of these are just myths and to prove that, we are going to debunk some of these myths in this article. Keep reading to find out more.

You Need To Declare Your Major

Want to go to college but still aren’t sure about exactly you want your major to focus on? That is totally fine as the first year of college is a great time for students to experience different classes and figure out what they want to do with their lives. This means that you can often go undeclared for quite some time until you are ready to make the big decision. There’s no need to rush into declaring your major, despite what you might have heard.

    College Students Are Broke

When you are at college, you don’t tend to have a full-time job and so money can be tight at times, but this doesn’t mean that everyone has to be broke.

There are plenty of ways that students can manage their finances, get federal loans, open a student bank account and even stick to a strict budget. There are ways of being financially stable at college so don’t let this put you off.

The Better Colleges Are More Expensive

It is fair to assume that the colleges that cost more are likely to be better value when it comes to education, but this is not always the case. You’ll find that there are plenty of colleges that offer a great academic program for a fraction of the price by cutting costs on other aspects of college life.

Make sure to look at the value rather than the cost when choosing a college.

    You Have To Do Everything

When you are at college, there are going to be a lot of activities going on all of the time. Many people think that if you don’t become an active member of the college community then you are not getting the full college experience. However, if you are not interested in joining in on frats, sororities or even societies then that is fine. Focus on your college work and you might even end up better off in the future when it comes to finding a job.

You Need To Graduate In Four Years

The final myth about college states that if you don’t finish college in four years then you are a failure. This is absolutely not true, and you might be surprised to know that actually, 58% of college students take around six or more years to finish their degree. Take your time, get your degree and you’ll get there in the end.
