In order to celebrate in style, it’s time to immaculately plan the perfect party for your college graduation. In order to make sure it’s a memorable, fun-filled celebration, consider the following tips.
1. Secure the Venue
Start by creating a guest list. Once you know how many people you’d like to invite, look for venues that can hold that number of people.
As you secure a venue, give yourself some wiggle room. You’ll have people that RSVP and still don’t come. You’ll also have people who don’t RSVP, show up at the last minute, and bring guests. While most people won’t fall under these categories, you don’t want it to completely break the bank if you have a few extra heads.
Most venues require an initial deposit. Consider the fact that graduation time can be a tough time to secure venues. Since the competition might be higher during that season, be prepared to pay in full as soon as possible.
2. Consider a Theme
There’s nothing quite like a themed party. While you can definitely purchase graduate-themed decor, it’s okay to go outside of the graduate theme in order to have a great time.
Whether you’re a lover of tacos, animals, or board games, create a themed party that pays homage to that interest. When you create a specific theme, you can always infuse different components of your collegiate experience throughout the party.
It’s also easier to create decorations when you have a theme. You can always blow up large photos, create canvas art and display them throughout the room. In addition to balloons, flowers, and other decorative details, a theme can set the foundation for a great atmosphere.
3. Provide Various Sources of Entertainment
Entertainment is so important in order to capture everyone’s attention. Throw the type of graduation party that makes people forget about their worries.
Set up different stations and booths for interactive experiences. Most people love social media. Knowing this, set up a fun ring light photo booth for your guest to take high-quality pictures they can post to their profiles.
Set up a self-serve candy bar for those who love to get that sugar rush. No party is complete with an incredible DJ with a great playlist. Do your due diligence in looking for a DJ who can read the room, play the right music and keep the party going.
4. Determine the Menu
People will remember a good time and good food. Even if the ambiance isn’t great, the food is one of the most memorable components. You can make the menu as casual or ornate as you’d like.
If you choose a Taco Tuesday theme, you can get as fancy as renting a taco truck for the party. Alternatively, you can set up tables for people to create their own tacos in a potluck style.
If you’re using a caterer or not, set aside the most money for food and drinks. You never want guests to leave hungry.
5. Get Clear on Logistics
Since you’re the graduate and party planner, it might seem obvious that you’d be the contact person the night of the party. Do not do this to yourself. Designate a person as the point of contact for the party. They’ll answer the questions from the caterer, guests, and more.
Everyone from the DJ to the clean-up crew should know their marching orders before the party day arrives. When you have a day-of coordinator, this protects you from feeling a ton of unnecessary stress.

As you plan the party, get the day-of coordinator, a friend, or a family member to help you work through the various details you might not think of on your own. When you’re able to look at the planning portion from all angles, this makes the night run smoothly.
While planning a graduation party can seem extremely stressful, it doesn’t have to be. Start by creating a timeline of events. Get clear on the deadlines for each item on the checklist.
Consistently work your way through the list of things to do. Resist the urge to procrastinate in order to make sure your plans run smoothly. Even if things don’t go as smoothly as you would’ve wanted them to, keep it all in perspective.
