Water Repellant Spray
Water repellant spray is definitely something to consider using on your furniture, especially if you enjoy inviting friends over. When you have guests, it’s easy for drinks to get knocked over, spilling liquid all over your furniture and carpet.
If you’ve sprayed your chairs and sofas with water repellant spray, liquids will just bead up on the surface. You’ll be able to clean up the mess much faster, and it probably won’t leave a stain behind.
Stain Repellant Spray
Stain repellant sprays work a little differently than water-resistant ones. Anti-stain sprays also help repel oils and dirt, not just water-based liquids.
If you own any long, formal dresses or costumes, you might consider spraying the underside of each train with anti-stain spray to make them easier to clean. You can also try out these sprays on furniture.
Anti-UV Spray
Anti-UV sprays are another protective fabric spray everyone should know about. They’re similar to the coatings you can find on sunglasses and surfing clothes. This option is basically a spray that absorbs some UV radiation, thus preserving the base fabric.
Anti-UV spray is worth considering if you decide to fly a flag or banner outside your apartment, since UV repellant spray is a good method for protecting flag colors from fading.
Patch Tests
Before you spray anything with protective aerosols, make sure you perform a patch test first. A patch test helps you determine whether the spray will hurt the fabric.
For example, some sprays might discolor your furniture or change the finish of a piece of clothing from matte to glossy. Fabric sprays can also make some fabrics bleed, which means you could stain your clothes from sitting on a sprayed sofa or vice versa. If you spray fabric that has multiple colors, the colors could also bleed into one another.

How To Do a Patch Test
To perform a patch test, all you need to do is get a sample of the fabric and spray it with your preferred protective spray. Give the fabric time to dry, then press it against a paper towel to see if the colors transfer.
You’ll also want to compare the sample to the rest of the fabric to see if the color has changed. If you don’t see any difference, you’re probably safe to spray the rest of the fabric.
