  • College is the place to learn and set up for future career success.

This undoubtedly comes with a busy schedule as you try to juggle classes, studying, internships, part-time jobs, club activities, leisure time, and sleep.

This atmosphere often causes many students to throw physical health by the wayside.

Regular exercise, however, plays a pivotal in maintaining a flourishing, focused state of mind throughout the day. You may even find that it serves as welcome break from all the mental strain you feel. Remember these tips to plot your course and achieve your physical wellness goals.

Decide Where You Want to Workout

The first step to create a workout plan is to investigate the possible locations you can exercise in. Thankfully, most college campuses have gym facilities that students can use, and they come decked out with workout equipment. They provide a specialized space where people can focus on fitness.

For some, the gym may require too much of a time commitment to travel to, or it may seem a bit intimidating to enter. An alternative would be to exercise right in the dorm.

You can perform many exercises without weights or equipment. Paths around the campus can also provide the perfect circuit for running.

    Go With A Group

Try to find others to exercise with to increase your motivation. In the beginning of your college experience, this can offer a good way to get to know people and form friendships. You could post a meeting time and place in your dorm to start, or you can verbally invite others. Exercising together can allow you to keep each other accountable, promote friendly competition, and make your workouts more enjoyable.

Figure Out What Type of Exercises to Do

Of course, you should think about your exercise goals. Do you want to maintain health but have a packed agenda with little time? Do you have any strength or cardio targets you want to achieve? Maybe you enjoy team settings and just want more interaction as you participate in physical activity.

Research appropriate exercises online for personal direction, or join an intramural sports league offered at your school. You can also look into exercises to target specific muscle groups so that you can tailor your sessions to your needs.

    Maintain Consistency

The most important factor in exercise—and unfortunately the hardest one to keep up—is consistency. You’ll find on some days you have energy to spare, while on others, it takes an immense force of will to get out of bed.

Don’t give up! Make a schedule, and lay out the details of your workout durations and activities. You won’t forget about exercising then, and you won’t waste time thinking about what you should do once you begin. You can also plan around classes and other obligations you have.

    other valuable tips:

If your initial plan becomes too demanding, revise it to a more realistic form. It’s better to exercise lightly but steadily, rather than to exercise vigorously one week and then never again. If you can form a habit out of your college workout plan, you will stay healthy and build up discipline.
