    Medical Billers and Coders

    If you enjoy administrative tasks, with just a hint of the medical side, you can choose to work in medical billing and coding. These professionals are essential to a large variety of medical facilities. While your daily tasks as a medical biller and coder may vary, some common responsibilities you may encounter in this field are maintaining charge sheets, submitting charge sheets to insurance companies, investigating claims, verifying billing and coding information, updating databases, and translating medical procedures to codes.

    Medical Administrative Assistants

    Another option you can choose if you favor administrative duties, is to become a medical administrative assistant. If you choose this specialty, you will work side by side with administrators of various medical facilities. Medical administrative assistants are responsible for many important tasks such as taking notes during meetings, helping create office policies, creating spreadsheets, creating and maintaining documents, interviewing patients for case histories, and maintaining medical records and charts.

    Chiropractic Medical Assistants

    If you would like to work closer with patients, as well as perform various administrative tasks, a popular specialty for medical assistants is that of a chiropractic medical assistant. Professionals in this specialty are found in medical facilities that offer chiropractic treatments. Other duties include transferring patients, or checking them in and out. You’ll also handle maintaining inventory and recording vital signs. Other administrative tasks will include managing patient files and appointments and billing.

    Obstetrics/Gynecology Medical Assistant Specialists

    Another popular field in medical assisting is obstetrics and gynecology. As a medical assistant specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, you will be working with female patients of all different ages. In this specialty, many of your daily tasks will involve assisting the physician in charge by taking and recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms and assisting during exams and procedures by drawing blood and more. According to Dr. Gilbert Webb’s Health Grades, high risk pregnancy patients will often need posture and chiropractic adjustments made as well. You’ll also be responsible for the medical histories of each patient and registering each patient as well.

    Pediatric Medical Assistants

    If you enjoy working with children, why not consider becoming a pediatric medical assistant? As a pediatric medical assistant, you will be working with children from infancy through the teen years. While your responsibilities may vary depending on your employer, some common tasks include setting appointments, comforting small children and assisting physicians during exams and treatments. You will also maintain medical filed and prepare rooms and equipment.
