  • Everybody deserves the right to education, especially if it means you can reach your dream career by gaining a new qualification.

Going to college is all about starting a new chapter in your life and working hard to achieve your goals.

However, before you can get too excited about this new adventure, it is important to plan.

The most successful students will have sat down and thought hard about where they want to study, what they want to study and how it will help them reach their dreams. Cities such as New York offer an abundance of colleges, which is perfect if you have your heart set on this particular part of America.

    Why study in New York?

New York is a buzzing city; it is full of museums, restaurants, nightlife and music. From Wall Street’s skyscrapers to the bright lights of Times Square, New York City will have you blown away by its uncontainable energy. There is a reason why people say it is the city where dreams come true. With plenty to do, you can find the perfect balance between study and fun. There are plenty of opportunities to partake in extracurricular activities and making new friends will be all too easy with the number of people who come here for the same reasons as you.

    What is there to do?

Like all major cities, exciting events are happening all year round. Music, sport, cultural. You name it; it will happen. It means that you have the chance to try lots of new experiences, such as going to a sports tournament. Some of the most popular include NFL matches and golf tournaments, like the US Open Golf in June 2018. There is nothing like the buzz and energy at a sport’s tournament; if you haven’t experienced it yet, you can get your tickets at ticketsales.com.

Once you have done all the major sightseeing of the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Central Park, it will be time to try some more of the local experiences. A great way to really get to know the city is by hiring a bike and cycling the streets for the day. You could even ask your new roommate if they would like to get to know the city with you.

Another fun way to experience the city when you first move is to hop onto Staten Island Ferry. Every day around 70,000 people take a ride to Staten Island, one of the city’s outer boroughs. Without paying a single cent, you get to observe the extraordinary views of the Lower Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. After your boat ride, you can search out one of the city’s famous pizza pop-ups – you can get a slice of pizza for $1!

    Making your decision

When choosing your college, it is important to choose your city too. You will be living here for the duration of your degree, and hopefully, it will become a second home to you.

If you are apprehensive about moving away or applying to college, then there is plenty of support available. Many colleges have departments dedicated to addressing the needs of potential applicants, whether they are fresh out of school or a mature student. In some cases, these support services can even put you in touch with other students in your situation, meaning you will have somebody to relate to and share your experience.
