  • The day of total independence is near. You will finally have the freedom to live on your own, with people at your age and with the same interest. Let’s not even mention the awesome parties. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? But before that, you should take care of the huge pile of things you need to package. Preparing to leave for the university is a long and tiring process. Few tips and advices will help you out.

    Make a Plan

Procrastination is a university experience familiar to every student, especially at their first year. Try to overcome the habit of doing everything at the last minute. It is a useful skill that will help you survive college. Plan ahead what you will need to bring with you.  Make a list of the things you need to buy. Go through all your belongings and write down what is coming with you in the university. In this way you can decide what professional man with van services you will need. Start packaging at least a week before the moving day. If you’re doing this on your own, you can do it even earlier. This is a time for a change and reconsideration. Do you need all those items that clutter your life? Do you want a new image for yourself? Set aside the stuff you don’t use anymore. You can look for different charitable institutions and donate them.

    The Essentials

Getting durable storage boxes is a good investment, because you can later use them in your dorm room to keep your belongings organized. Stack up with plastic bins and containers. Don’t forget about the hangers. Always get more than you need. You will be amazed by the amount of items you collected.  Bring your own pillows and sheets and bath linens.

You will find out that dividing your possessions in different categories will help you unpack more easily. Use the list you created earlier to label your storage boxes. In addition, you should number them. If one of them goes missing, you can easily detect it. Secure all fragile items with bubble wrap. Even if you have forgotten something, don’t overreact. You can grab what you need when you get back. If you are moving electric devices or music instruments, store them in their original boxes. If you have thrown them away, ask the removal company to package it.

By now you know whether you are going to transport your belongings on your own or you will take advantage of a removal company. You can rent a van or you can hire a “man with a van.” Select wisely your moving company. Research what packages they offer. Go carefully through the list of the services they offer. Compare the best offers. Some of the moving companies have packing and door to door options. Most importantly check for student discounts.

    Moving Day

When the big day comes, get up early and have a solid breakfast. You will need a lot of energy for the moving. Arrange for the house removals teams to come in the morning. Think of all the students that are heading to university. You want to avoid the traffic. The last thing you want is to be stuck for hours with your entire luggage.

    At the Dorm/ Apartment

When you finally get there, don’t rush to unpack immediately. Get only the most essential items. Think well, how you are going to organize and store your belongings in an efficient way. You don’t want to spend you college years in a constant mess.
