  • If you are concerned about going to college during the COVID-19 pandemic, you are not alone.

Many students and families worry about health and safety on campus at this time.

However, there is no reason to delay your college studies if you take the proper precautions to avoid health problems associated with the pandemic.

Many colleges are allowing more online classes or otherwise ensuring the safety of students.

Check out the article below to find about some of your options for education during the pandemic.

    Campus Preparedness

Universities and colleges around the country are continuously updating their understanding of COVID-19 and taking adequate precautions.

From checking students’ temperatures as they arrive on campus to maintaining effective social distance, higher education institutions are doing a great job of keeping students and faculty safe.

Check with the college you plan to attend to find out what they are doing to protect everyone on campus from the virus.

    Hybrid Courses

Instead of offering classes that meet three to five days per week, many colleges have reconfigured courses being offered to meet one or two days per week on campus where required CDC guidelines are met to keep everyone safe.

The remaining weekly class time is spent online via a college Web platform that students can access from home or other personal areas instead of coming to campus several days each week.

This approach lets students enjoy the meaningful classroom contact with peers and faculty while minimizing the risk of exposure to COVID.

    Online Courses

Some college courses are offered completely online to enable students to work from home instead of coming to campus at all. Earning an online bachelor’s degree in graphic design, for example, is possible without taking a campus course.

All classes are taught virtually using the same methods taught in a traditional classroom course, including lecture, reading and writing assignments, and exams. Instructors and tutors, along with other college personnel, can meet individually with a student via videoconferencing or telephone.

Some faculty offer campus office hours and follow COVID-19 safety protocols. Look into what the particulars of the program you are interested in are.

Choose the Best Option for You

Some campuses offer COVID-19 testing and health exams for students who have been exposed or may be experiencing questionable symptoms. Some students take both online and campus courses to have the best of both worlds in a college learning program. Others prefer one or the other.

As we strive to maintain a semblance of normalcy in higher education, students can take classes safely and effectively to work toward their career goals. Whatever you decide in terms of your education in this chaotic time, it is important to know your options.

Please consider what would be best for you, as you work for your safety and the safety of your family and friends.
