  • For busy students, online degree programs are sent from above. They allow you to attend college, get a degree, and maintain your work and home lives at the same time. Online courses are especially convenient if you’ve just had a new baby. Bonding with your baby is your top priority, but getting a degree could be extremely important for your family’s future. Online degree programs are a great way to combine being a parent while preparing for the future. It isn’t easy, but these tips help you make the process more manageable.

    Set a Routine

It’s not possible to put a baby on a set schedule, but a loose routine helps keep you sane. Figure out your baby’s routine and try to tailor your study routine to theirs. If your tot naps at the same time every day, set that time aside to get schoolwork done. All babies have a time of day where they’re happiest, and that’s another great time to get a little bit of work completed as they entertain themselves.

    Know Your Limits

It may be tempting to take a full course load because you’re at home all day, but this could be a disaster if you’ve got multiple kids or your baby is still really young. Online courses do require a significant amount of interaction with your fellow classmates, as well as papers, studying, and exams. Start off slow. If your financial aid allows for half-time enrollment, start there. You can always add more classes the following semester. You don’t want to take too many classes and have to drop out or get a less than satisfactory grade.

    Delegate Duties to Your Spouse

You can’t be expected to take care of a baby, be sleep deprived, clean, cook, and maintain a 4.0 GPA. You aren’t superwoman, so have a talk with your spouse about what you need help with. Maybe they need to cook dinner a few times a week or take over the night feedings if possible. Create a balance between your family, school, and work (if you work) to maintain your sanity and happiness.

If you want to get your degree online, there are infinite ways to make it work. You don’t have to give up all of the time you spend with the people you love, and you’re still able to better your future from the comfort of your own home.
