While attending college, it is helpful to earn some money so that debts do not continue to pile up. However, with limited time available, you must be creative in figuring out a unique way to work. Here are some ideas to get your started:
Mow lawns or run a snow blower
Depending on the season, there are many homeowners who are not physically able to run their lawn mower or snow blower. They would be delighted to hire you to regularly take care of that type of necessary chore. By using their equipment, you don’t have to have that expenditure and can just provide the “muscle” to get the jobs done.
Work in a small retail shop or restaurant
There are numerous small businesses and restaurants that just need part-time help, and the hours will often coincide with the time that you have available after your classes or on weekends. The necessary flexible hours at such a job will allow you to fit it in conveniently.
Work from home
Since you already have a computer and are familiar with doing research and writing papers, consider being a freelance writer or start a home based business. There are many companies that offer you the flexibility to work from home with your own hours, doing what you love. You can also choose to stick to freelance work, which might offer even more flexibility, but will not be as consistent.
Do seasonal jobs and deliveries
With holidays such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day and others, florists and other shops that provide seasonal gifts often need assistance with getting orders ready and having them delivered to local customers. Offer your services around these holidays to get a few extra hours in. Holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter often occur during a time when you may have less school work to worry about, making this a great opportunity to earn a little extra cash without the commitment of a long-term job.
Walk neighborhood dogs
This can be a regular way to earn money before and after classes. Find an apartment building or homes close together so that you can line up a number of dogs. Once you find your first customer and relate that you are looking for more, word of mouth to neighbors will often quickly line up enough dogs to make your walks worthwhile.
Saving and earning money while in school is possible with a little effort. While you may still have some student debts, reducing the debt as early as possible will greatly affect your financial situation both as student and after you graduate.
